Technology is advancing at an extraordinary pace, changing how we work, learn, conduct research, and make decisions. For governments, this moment brings both enormous opportunity and a critical challenge: how do we ensure our data systems and institutions are ready for what comes next?

Realizing the potential of emerging technologies will require more than adopting new tools. States and federal agencies need trusted administrative data, modern infrastructure, strong governance, skilled people, and the ability to securely and responsibly connect information across programs and agencies. These foundations are essential to harnessing technologies such as AI to generate stronger evidence, inform better decisions, and ultimately improve outcomes for people and communities.

At this pivotal moment, the 7th Annual National Conference: Data Beyond Borders returns March 17-18, 2027 in Arlington, Virginia, to bring together leaders from government, research, technology, philanthropy, and the nonprofit sector. Together, we’ll examine how governments can strengthen their data infrastructure and capacity today to become more data-ready, more connected, and better prepared for the opportunities ahead.

The Conference will Explore

Conversations will examine some of the most important questions facing governments and leaders focused on data for impact today: How should states modernize their data infrastructure for an AI-enabled future? How can agencies securely connect administrative data across traditional boundaries? What governance frameworks are needed as analytic capabilities become more powerful? How do we build the workforce and institutional capacity necessary to use these tools responsibly? And how can better data ultimately translate into better policy and better outcomes?

Through keynotes, conversations, workshops, and peer learning, participants will hear from leaders who are putting these ideas into practice and helping shape what comes next.
