Obituary - John “Jack” Dendinger

COLERIDGE — John “Jack” Dendinger, 80, Coleridge, died Nov. 9, 2009, peacefully with his family at his side.
Visitation and a Vigil Service were Nov. 12 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Coleridge, and continued Friday at the church.
Mass of Christian Burial was Nov. 13 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Bishop William Dendinger and Rev. Jeffery Loseke officiating.
Burial was in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Coleridge, with military honors provided by the Coleridge American Legion Post 114.

Pallbearers were Tom Howell, Daren Klein, Bill McCullough, Monte Boesen, John Ryan and Jacob Dendinger.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Coleridge.
Jack was born May 21, 1929, at Sioux City, Iowa, to David and Regina (McCluskey) Dendinger. He attended Lincoln District 42 country school and graduated from Coleridge High School in 1947. He grew up, farmed, and raised cattle on the Dendinger family farm southwest of Coleridge all his life. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. Jack married Norma Jean Stappert Aug. 9, 1955, in Bow Valley.
Jack was a member of the St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Coleridge, and was a former trustee and parish council member. He also served on the Rectory Building Committee and was a former member and president of the Coleridge Community School Board. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Coleridge American Legion Post 114, and the Cedar County Livestock Feeders.
The Dendinger family received the Knights of Ak-sar-ben Pioneer Farm Award for 100 years of family ownership of the Dendinger farm. Jack loved going on cattle buying trips and attending cattle sales. He and Norma enjoyed dining out and ballroom dancing. Jack also enjoyed all kinds of sports.
Jack is survived by his wife, Norma Jean Dendinger, Coleridge; six children and their spouses, David and Laura Dendinger, Coleridge; Jolene and Tom Howell, Lincoln; Jean and Daren Klein, Monroe, Wash.; Marilyn and Bill McCullough, Santa Clarita, Calif.; Jacqueline and Monte Boesen, Malcolm; Patty and John Ryan, Omaha; 10 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Ann and William O’Rouke, Rochester, Minn.; Joan and Frank Brogan, Bethesda Md.; two brothers, Don Dendinger, Omaha; and Bishop William Dendinger, Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Bob Dendinger, and an infant brother, Joseph Dendinger.
