COLERIDGE — So long smoke, hello clean air.
A statewide smoking ban takes effect on June 1.
The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and local health departments will be working with businesses to help them comply with Nebraska’s new smoke-free law.
On June 1, every indoor workplace and public place in Cedar County, as well as across the state, must be smoke-free. The act was designed to protect the public health and welfare of people.

Memorial Day keeps family coming ‘home’ year after year
May 26th, 2009 · 1 Comment
COLERIDGE — Observing Memorial Day remains a strong tradition for a family that grew up in Coleridge.
The parents, Clarence and Helen Vock, are now deceased, but the lessons of patriotism and the importance of decorating graves on Memorial Day still linger on with their children.
Even though all but one of the six children have moved away, most of them still return to Coleridge every year to decorate the graves of family members and honor the veterans.
“It was a part of life at our house when we were growing up,” said Jacie Burbach. “You did not make any other plans for Memorial Day.”
This year was no different as the families of Jim Vock, Joan (Vock) Cautrell, Jacie (Vock) Burbach and Julie (Vock) Murphy stopped by area cemeteries and gathered at the Burbach home in Coleridge for a time of fellowship.
